About us

We are the Union that represents the Sergeants and Lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. Our members are New York State Peace Officers who supervise operations and police the Bridges and Tunnels of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA), also known as MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

TBTA Sergeants and Lieutenants posses specialized knowledge and training unique to the protection of our infrastructure and enforcement of NYS Laws in a bridge and tunnel highway and toll environment. In addition to Staffing and Supervising all Operations of our Bridges and Tunnels, our specialized units are staffed and supervised by Sergeants and Lieutenants in the Special Operations Division (SOD) Command Center, SOD Highway Unit, SOD Planning Section, SOD Commercial Vehicle Safety Unit and SOD Training Division as well as the Central Operations Notification Unit and Fare Evasion Task Force.

Incorporated on March 19, 1973 as the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority Sergeants and Lieutenants Benevolent Association and amended on February 26, 1988 we became Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority Superior Officers Benevolent Association aka SOBA.
